Industry watchers are getting impatient as the date of the launch of Hyundai’s Grand i10 draws close. The Grand i10 has been code named as BA and it is expected that Hyundai will be positioning the Grand i10 between the i20 and the current i10. The Grand i10 will be made available in both diesel and petrol powetrains. Hyundai will also launch an automatic Grand i10 which will be integrated with a petrol motor.
Hyundai had unveiled the Grand i10 on 7th August in India. At the same time, the second generation i10 was unveiled for the European markets. Till a few days back, Hyundai had also shown images of the exterior styling of the Grand i10 even as the interiors were kept a closely guarded secret. The nationwide launch of the Grand i10 is slated for 3rd September, 2013. The first ever TVC of Grand i10 was being shot when the images of its interiors were clicked and leaked.
From the initial images, the dashboard of the Grand i10 will feature a start-stop button along with steering mounted audio controls. Also seen in the images is the gear shifted mounted on the car dashboard which is quite akin to the current i10. The Grand i10’s interiors are a combination of the current i20 and i10 interiors. The dashboard features a two tone, beige and black color combination. The fabric seats also sport a dual tone combination.
The styling of the Grand i10 is based on the Fluidic design platform. The car has been designed with a quintessential Hyundai family look and sports the typical hexagonal front grille. Fog lamps are adorned with chrome lining which was not seen in the present i10. The Grand i10 will be 100 mm longer compared to the present i10 hatchback and there is a significant increase in the wheelbase length as well. Owing to these size changes, the Grand i10 is roomy compared to the present i10.
The Grand i10’s top end model will feature airbags with EBD +ABS, stereo with 1GB memory, rear AC vents, automatic folding ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls, keyless entry and a cooled glove box. By providing the rear AC vents, Hyundai seems to be targeting those buyers who look for a comfortable back seating.
The Grand i10 will also come in a diesel engine variant. It will be powered by a 1.1 litre, 3 cylinder turbo diesel motor that will churn 74 bhp output and a torque of 152 Nm. The engine will be mated with a 5 speed manual transmission.
The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.2 litre Kappa petrol motor will be paired with a 4 speed automatic gearbox and a 5 speed manual gearbox. It is expected that the Grand i10 will be priced above Rs. 4 lakhs for the petrol model while the diesel model will be priced higher than Rs. 5 lakhs.
The images leaked were of the Asta automatic petrol model which is fitted with the 1.2 litre Kappa2 engine. It is also seen that Hyundai will provide a TipTronic Autobox function since there is a +/- besides the conventional PRND.
