Hyundai Australia has just launched the first ever i30 SR that offers a whole new experience with new suspension tune and enhanced technical specifications. Under the hood, the Hyundai i30 SR packs in the Korean car maker’s 2 liter GDI naturally aspirated 4 cylinder motor that does the magic. The car also gets bigger 17 inch alloy wheels with a tuned sporting spring and damper specially developed for the Australian roads conditions.
The car features a low rather flat design language that is sleek and well balanced with great built quality that makes it s mean machine ready to challenge the wind. On the inside, the i30 SR has a world-class style that does not seem overwhelming though. It offers features that look and feel superior in quality. The interior has an all black theme that is common with all the i30 variants. It gets stylish brushed metal highlights, piano black controls, chrome trimmed gearshift that are really eye catching.
The SR gets its exclusive suspension tune, Xenon headlamps, electric driver seat, leather and leatherette upholstery and LED tail lamps. It also offers seven airbags and 5 Star ANCAP safety features.
The SR borrows the i30 Elite features such as the push button start along with proximity key, sat-nav with SUNA, audio system with six speakers, USB and aux-in, steering wheel audio controls, rain sensing wipers, dual zone climate control with automatic de-fogging, rear view camera with parking assist, cruise control and many more.
The Hyundai SR claims to have a 7.7 second dash to 100km/h which seems to be too good, but it certainly offers a very smooth driving experience.
The only thing that bothered us was while driving it on the mountainous roads was the big gap of response between second and third gear, this can get a bit of a nuisance at times.
However, the good part is that there are no issues regarding the handling or the balance of the car even while taking sharp turns. This car can give you all you want from a compact hatchback to take care of your daily transportation needs and also zip across the highways and long stretches of tough roads, thus giving you double benefits.
The SR’s shape and built quality again impressed us, as it really is a wind cutter on high speeds and offers extremely good smooth, vibration free drives. We drove through a lot of varied road condition both in city, highways and the mountainous curvy roads and the i30 SR handled all very smooth and nice.
If you drive an SR, then you are also sure to be surprised by the sheer quality of the drivability, sharp responsiveness and power performance of this car.
Moreover, during our tough drive through all sorts of roads and traffic conditions, we ended with a commendable 8.5 l/100km. With such high speeds and spirited driving any turbocharged engine is also not expected to return as much.
As a whole, the Hyundai i30 SR is a superb performer, with the right looks, features and powerful and smart mechanism.
