Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai which has captured a major share of Indian compact car market considers the Hyundai Santro its flagship product which helped gain a foothold. Launched with much fanfare with modern features like power steering and windows, made the Hyundai Santro an instant bestseller in Indian market. When this car as introduced almost a decade ago its interior were available in limited colors its tallboy design which gave ample headroom to which till then was only present in luxury cars urged even middle class families to invest in the Hyundai Santro.
Success of this car encouraged its makers to introduce an improved version renamed as Hyundai Santro Zing with a more efficient CRDi engine to handle growing traffic on Indian roads. This engine with an expected mileage of 23 Kmpl will have manual transmission. Manufacturing facilities in India also enabled Hyundai to market it within Asia and also Oceania markets. The Hyundai Santro Zing is a second generation car of original model Atos Prime. Critical features that have made this car popular are mileage, powerful engine and low maintenance combined with low cost. The Santro Diesel car will be available in wide range and shade of colors of White, Grey, Black and Red. Enhanced features that will be available in the Santro Zing diesel version are Bluetooth interface with better audio control along with exterior rectangular headlamps. In busy city roads with heavy traffic during rush hour, the Santro Zing is an ideal car due to smooth gear handling capability thereby helping drivers to maneuver easily.
The overall width of upcoming diesel Santro Xing will remain as before at 1525 mm with ground clearance of 164 mm thereby providing a car ideal for driving even during rainy season on India’s water logged city roads. Frontal appearance of this Santro Diesel will be slightly different with “smiley” grille design and black strip on lower section of the bumper. In view of the fact that a diesel engine will increase overall cost of this car, its interiors have not been altered. Customers have already expressed satisfaction and pleasure with interiors of existing Santro Zing petrol version which is considered the most spacious in this category. The diesel version of Hyundai Santro Zing will be available in the price range of 4-6 lakhs INR which is slightly higher to its petrol variant. As an environment conscious auto manufacturer, Hyundai will ensure that this car complies with stringent emission norms as per Euro IV.
This step initiated by Hyundai to launch a diesel version of a highly popular brand as a next generation car will be profitable if market reports are to be believed. Since a market already exists for this brand Hyundai will not have to spend much on introducing the product and only information needs to be spread through general press and dealers that a diesel variant also exists. When design and engine superiority of Santro Zing is coupled with a diesel motor it will provide an ideal car for cost conscious Indian customers looking for value.Hyundai Santro Diesel will it eat the competition?,
